HMS unites Singapore brands
The three Singapore-based companies within Germany’s Hanseatic Marine Services group have been re-named as HMS Far East.
The Schaar & Niemeyer Far East, KTL Ship Supply and Hans Heidorn Far East brands came together on January 1 in a move that follows last year’s acquisition of HMS by Zerssen Citti Holdings, whose Citti group is a leading German supplier of provisions, beverages and non-food items.
A leading international ship supplier for more than 160 years, HMS has 225 staff in Hamburg and Kiel, 75 in Singapore and serves an annual 4,000 cargo and cruise vessels for 750 clients worldwide. The Asian operation, which is also prominent in the offshore industry, is ISO 9001:2000 certified by DNV and currently preparing for ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001.
The Singapore companies had been promoting the HMS banner for several years under a ‘One Stop Service’ campaign. All their contracts and obligations will be taken over by the new entity.
Schaar & Niemeyer managing director Peter Schellenberger adds: “With the strong support of our new owners, we now also have full access to Citti’s massive purchasing leverage – synergies that will be passed on to our esteemed customers.
“Based on these changes, we look to the future with a confident and optimistic view despite the challenges in our industry that 2010 will certainly provide.”
