International extends primer options
International Paint is marketing a new range of universal primers to provide shipbuilders with customised products that address different regulatory and commercial needs around the world.
The company points out that shipyards have different construction methods, build different vessels, are exposed to varying climatic conditions and are subject to local as well as global regulations.
By introducing five new options to its proven Intershield 300 primer, the company says that builders and owners can better choose how they meet productivity and performance targets while complying with the IMO Performance Standard for Protective Coatings (PSPC) and new regional regulations limiting Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) emissions.
Intershield 300 has been applied to more than 9,000 vessels in 21 years and is an industry leader in PSPC compliant anticorrosive performance.
With the same aluminium content of more than 9%, new Intershield 300HS is a high solids version offering 78% volume solids, lower VOC and application direct from the can without thinning. Current EMEA availability will be extended worldwide by mid-2010.
Intergard 7600 – available in the EMEA and ISEAC regions - is a light coloured, pure epoxy primer providing low temperature workability and long overcoating intervals with no need for surface roughening.
Intergard 787 is an 80% volume solids coating that tackles the VOC emissions challenge and is currently available in Korea.
The range is completed by Intergard 5600 and Intergard 5620 - evolved from Intergard 403 and Intergard 423 technology – that can be sprayed year-round and are currently available in EMEA and ISEAC.
