Industry InitiativesRepresenting your best interests

On behalf of members IMPA engages in a number of industry initiatives which seek to represent the best interests of the industry and those engaged within the purchasing and supply arena.

A very good example of this has been IMPA’s involvement in the e-commerce sector and IMPA was instrumental in establishing a standard for the industry. IMPA worked over a number of years with key industry members and IMPA members to establish what has now become the benchmark standard for electronic trading which is called MTML (Marine Trading Mark-up Language).

It has widespread support throughout the maritime buyer and supplier community as well as with marine supply chain software providers. IMPA helped to establish MeCA, the Maritime e-Commerce Association which exists to promote e-commerce for the benefit of all parties in the marine supply chain and particularly by developing, maintaining, harmonising and promoting common standards (including technical standards and protocols for interoperability between systems).

IMPA’s council and Secretariat Office regularly investigate initiatives based on recommendations from members and the industry and will continue to do so. Remember as an IMPA member you can suggest areas for IMPA to investigate for the benefit of the industry.
