A founder member of International Marine Purchasing Association 1978. September 1937 joined Union-Castle Line as junior rating in the catering department.

1940-45 British Royal Navy as leading hand and finally Petty Officer in Supply Department on board Mine Layer, Aircraft Carrier and Armed Merchant Cruiser.

1945 Rejoined Union-Castle Line, served all disciplines in Catering Department to Chief Steward.

1950 Joined South African Marine Corporation as Purser.

1966 Appointed Junior Superintendent with responsibility for storing and recruitment of officers for new buildings in Europe.

1972 Appointed Purchasing Manager, Europe
also with responsibility for catering departments.

1986 Retired but has acted as consultant to suppliers as requested.

Made Honorary Life member of IMPA.
