Avanquest Solutions Pulls Supply Chain Tighter for Northern Marine

Oslo, 9th April 2008: Tamrotor Marine Compressors (TMC) will exhibit at this year’s Posidonia trade show at a the joint stand of Alpha Marine Engineering, TMC’s agent in Greece.

At Posidonia, TMC will exhibit the TMC Smart Air® frequency controlled marine compressor. In addition to this, TMC personnel will be present to provide information on other news such as TMC’s new high-capacity compressor and the TMC spare part kits that makes maintenance of the compressors easier and cheaper.

TMC Smart Air® - frequency controlled compressors: saves energy costs and significantly reduces CO2 emissions

Frequency control has been used on sea water and fresh water pumps onboard ships for years. TMC has introduced TMC Smart Air® - frequency controlled - or variable speed - compressors.

Energy costs make up to 80% of compressed air cost. By using a frequency controlled compressor, you can, in most cases, save more than 40% energy.

A variable speed compressor is equipped with a frequency-controlled motor. This enables the compressor to adjust the compressed air production precisely according to the compressed air consumption.

Some of the benefits by using TMC Smart Air® frequency controlled compressors are:

  • The frequency controlled compressor is controlling the capacity and power consumption precisely to the air demand. This means 35 – 40 % energy saving – which also means a reduction in CO2 emission.
  • Constant pressure in the network at all times will minimize the power consumption and reduce the wear on the compressor.
  • Soft start will increase the lifetime on the transmission such as belts and couplings and give lower pressure and less movement on all parts.

All this leads to reducing the life cycle cost with 25 – 30%.

New compressor for large capacities: TMC 105-235
This year, TMC is also introducing a new compressor for large capacities: the TMC 105-235. TMC have worked closely with customers to develop this new high-capacity compressor. The result is a design and functionality that is optimal for installation on board ships.

The unique design, with all high elements placed at one end, allows for installation in a smaller/lower area then what is possible with competing compressors. Also, all service points are accessible from one side, which means that placement is flexible not only in terms of height but also in terms of horizontal space, as it is not necessary to be able to access the compressor from more than one side. All canopy walls can be removed.

Spare Part Kits for cost-saving and ease of maintenance

For many years, TMC has advocated the use of original spare parts. In all sectors of the ship equipment industry, non-original spare parts are becoming more and more sophisticated and identical looking, but the risk is still the same. Material specification is often rationalized, resulting in rapid wear, compromised performance, poor reliability, higher oil and fuel consumption and even component damage or system failure.

To make it even easier for the ships to choose original TMC spare parts for their TMC compressors, TMC now introduces spare part kits. The spare part kits contain all parts that should be replaced after a certain number of running hours/years, and they include instructions for changing the parts.

Benefits of using these kits include: lower price per part than when purchased item by item, time saved on ordering and checking and certainty of getting all necessary parts – and no unnecessary parts. This means there will be no unscheduled stops due to missing parts.

TMC spare part kits include kits such as 1500 hours/1 year kit, oil change kit, separator kit, etc. Kits are available for all TMC compressor models.
